Top 10 Neighborhood Amenities in Lafayette, California

Lafayette is 24 miles east of San Francisco, bordered by Orinda on the west, Moraga on the south and Walnut Creek on the east. It is a community of approximately 24,000, connected to other Bay Area cities through Highway 24, Interstate 680 and BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit).
The community has attracted many young professionals over the years because of its charm and award winning schools. It has an active and bustling downtown, various real estate price points and diverse communities. Lafayette has undergone much construction over the past few years leading to modernized buildings along Mt. Diablo Blvd. Despite new developments and new housing constructions, Lafayette has retained its old charm and rural atmosphere.

Lafayette Reservoir

The Lafayette Reservoir is a popular destination for, walkers, hikers, and joggers. The Reservoir has two popular trails. The lower trail is a 2.7 mile paved road that circles around the reservoir; the upper trail is a 4.7 miles hilly dirt trail that also circles the reservoir. The reservoir is also used for picnics with over 125 picnic tables and numerous barbeque stands. There are two group areas available for reservation. Recently a performance platform was added to the park which is a gathering place for summer concerts. Lafayette Reservoir offers paddle boat rentals and daily permits for fishing among other activities.

Lafayette Community Center

The Community Center is a very busy place with a variety of classes and activities for different age groups. The center offers classes to toddlers as well as trips and events for children of all ages. The adult classes are very popular and include art classes, dance classes, fitness programs and community events. Lafayette Senior Center is part of the Community Center and offers activities and programs geared toward seniors. The new building for Lafayette Community Center is under construction and will attract bigger groups to the center.

Park Hotel and Spa

The hotel is located off of Mt Diablo Blvd and very close to Walnut Creek. It is the only hotel serving Moraga, Orinda and Lafayette. It is an award winning hotel with French Chateau architecture which offers a warm and cozy environment to its guests. The hotel is popular for its award winning restaurants used for family and business gatherings.

Lafayette Library and Learning Center

This new construction is a complex and advanced resource center for all ages. It is located in the heart of Lafayette and is walking distance to some schools, senior housings, and close to BART and the Freeway. The facility is over 30,000 square feet in a 3 story building. It consists of not only a main library but also a technology lab, lounges, teen center, homework center, meeting rooms, story corner, and Bookmark Cafe. The facility also houses the Lafayette Historical Society.

Lafayette Veterans Memorial Center

Veterans Memorial Center opened its door in its new location in 2005. It is conveniently located on Mt. Diablo Blvd. and is constructed on a 1.28 acre site. The building consists of a main hall that can be divided into two smaller events halls. These halls are used throughout the year for events, parties and business gatherings.

Town Hall

The Town Hall opened it door in 1914 and is considered the oldest active theater company in Contra Costa County. In older years, it was used as Grand Ballroom, community meeting room, church, and movie theater. Lafayette Playshop started holding its theatrical performances in 1941.The Dramateurs reorganized the Town Hall Theater company in 1992. Over the years, the company has brought many performances for the enjoyment of its faithful audiences. It has also been used to train students to enjoy and understand theater.

Acalanes High School

Acalanes High School is one of the four schools in the Acalanes School District. It mainly serves students from Lafayette but if space available, students from neighboring cites can request to be transferred to Acalanes High School. It is known for its high achieving students, strong college preparatory programs, as well as strong athletic and music programs.

Glenn Seaborg Learning Consortium

The Glenn Seaborg Learning Consortium is an educational center that offers different programs for the community, administered by the Lafayette Library and Learning Center Foundation. The center is created as a collaboration of 12 Bay Area educational, science and art institutions which provide a variety of educational programs and special events.

Oakwood Athletic Club

Oakwood Athletic Club is a luxury full service health club in which the members can enjoy health spa treatments, workout machines, fitness classes, swimming instructions, sport courts and social events.

Lamorinda Petanque Club

Pétanque is a French game which is similar to horseshoes and bocce ball. The Lamorinda Petanque field is along St. Mary's Rd. and the club members regularly meet every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at 2:00 PM to play.
