Top 10 Neighborhood Amenities in the Town of Moraga, CA

Moraga, a small community of approximately 16,000, is an affluent, suburban family oriented town. It is nestled in the hills south of Lafayette and Orinda, with only two main roads leading into town. Moraga is not particularly close to the freeway or any BART stations. It requires a 10-15 minute drive to get to the freeway which makes it more attractive as it is considered a safe and quiet place to live. There is public transit from Moraga to the Orinda and Lafayette BART stations. Travel time to Oakland and Berkeley is 20-25 minutes, and to San Francisco is 35-45 minutes.
The town has three major parks which consist of 40 acres of land. These parks offer a variety of activities for Moragans to enjoy. There is an abundance of hiking trails around Moraga and the hillsides offer some of the most scenic landscape in Contra Costa County.
The town is known for its excellent schools, and the schools consistently record some of the county's highest test scores in all grades. Like most family towns, parents spend a great deal of time taking the children to events and activities, including sports and music. Eighty-four percent of all residences are single family homes.
Moraga is my home too where I moved with my family 23 years ago. My boys greatly benefited from its great schools and also were fully involved in swimming, waterpolo, music, soccer, and basketball which helped them with their self confidence and character building.

Saint Mary's College

Saint Mary's College of California is a well known educational institution. The campus consists of 400 acres of land which includes sports courts, the Soda Activity Center, LeFevre Theater, Hearst Art Gallery, Poplar Grove, and the College Chapel. St. Mary's College not only offers different majors in undergraduate and graduate programs, it also supports sport and cultural events, religious services and recreational classes.

Moraga Country Club

The Moraga Country Club includes 521 private residences, a 22,000 square feet clubhouse with restaurants, a nine lane swimming pool plus a baby pool, 18 individual tennis courts, and a 18-hole golf course. It is situated in the middle of the town, and its serene atmosphere attracts both younger and older families. The clubhouse restaurant only serves lunch and dinner to MCC members, and is also used for private events.

Sanders Ranch

Sanders Ranch is a prestigious neighborhood in Moraga with a gated entry as well as a security guard at the front gate. The Sanders Ranch community is an upscale family oriented area that only offers single family homes and is managed by HOA.

Hacienda De Las Flores

The 10 acre property that once was owned by Donald Rheem, is now owned by the Town of Moraga. The property consists of a botanical garden and nature trails. Since 1985, it has been registered as a California historical landmark. Hacienda De Las Flores is a popular place for weddings and other community events. It is open daily to the public and the Moraga Recreation Department uses it for various classes.

Moraga Commons

Moraga Commons is a 20 acre park located in the center of town. It feature open grass areas, family and group picnic areas, separate playgrounds for toddlers and older children, a volleyball court, an 18 hole disc golf course, and horseshoe pits. It also has an amphitheater with bandshell that is gathering place for summer concerts.

Rancho Laguna Park

Rancho Laguna, an 8.5 acre park, is a meeting place for nature lovers, and dog walkers. The park has children's play structures, volleyball courts, adult exercise courses, barbecue and picnic areas. The park allows off leash dogs at certain times of the day.

Rheem Theatre

The New Rheem Theater is a 4 screen multiplex which has gone through many renovations with the support of the community, businesses and various local organizations. Often, films are presented by filmmakers and other critics with an open forum for discussions. The theater not only exhibits various films but also a home for promoting various forms of arts such as live music, poetry reading, theater, comedy and art exhibitions.

Campolindo High School

Moraga is well known for its high achieving schools, which attract many people from surrounding cities. Campolindo High School is considered one of the highest performing schools in California. It is a gold award winner and offers extensive selection of AP courses. It is also known for its various competitive sports as well as music and art courses. I had the best personal experience when both of my boys attended Campolindo High School, and they owe their achievements in large part to the education and character building they received at Campolindo.

Soda Aquatic Center

The state of art Soda Aquatic Center is part of Campolindo High School. The facility is comprised of one 50 meter pool, two 25-yard pools with four diving boards, and a sophisticated score board system. The Soda Center has been the host to numerous international water polo events and high level swimming competitions, and has been home for some of the nation's top swimmers and water polo players.
My boys had the opportunity of participating in swim meets and water polo games in these pools for many years and I had the privilege of being a volunteer at swim meets and a keeper at many high school water polo games.

24 Hour Fitness

Moraga's 24 Hour Fitness in the Rheem shopping center is a super store fitness club. It offers a wide range of group exercise classes as well as personal training classes. It is located in the center of the town and is the only 24 Hour Fitness in Lamorinda.
