Neighborhood Amenities Northwest, Reno, NV

This is just one of the three distinct areas in the Northwest part of Reno. One is the University area and at the Northwest corner lies a planned community called Somersett. One word that comes to my mind to describe this area is convenience. There are plenty of hiking trails and walking paths. All amenities are close by. Easy access to the I80 freeway. Minutes from downtown and midtown Reno. Lake Tahoe is only 40 minutes away.

Walmart Superstore. Open 24 hours a day. Has an Eye center, a pharmacy with long hours, tire center, groceries, and garden center. Centrally located with easy access in and out. One stop shopping. Also located nearby is a Wells Fargo and Doughboy donuts.

Ridgeview Plaza

Ridgeview Plaza is a community center shopping mall that is conveniently located off of Mae Anne Ave and McCarran in Northwest Reno. There are few dozens various shops. Ridgeview is on one many shopping centers located within a 5 mile radius of each other.

McQueen High School

McQueen High School is one of the reasons I personally moved to the Northwest area. In 2010 Newsweek listed McQueen as the 740th best school in the United States. The athletic department competes in the 4A level. Their marching band has won 14 state championships. They marched in the 2005 Presidential Inaugural Parade, Tournament of Roses and many more parades.

Grace Community Church

Grace is Christ-centered nondenominational church. They offer many different types of groups. Support groups, gatherings, topical classes aimed specially at women, men or any age group. They have preschool called Lions & Lambs, which my daughter attended for all of her preschool years and when she was old enough to go to public school she spent her summer vacation there for many years.

Casa Grande Mexican Food

What can I say, Casa Grande is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Reno. My favorite dish is the carnitas. The salsa and bean dip are wonderful. The service and atmosphere are great! I also highly recommend the margaritas.

Home Depot

This home depot is fantastic. I love that is it located so close to me here in the Northwest Reno, Perfect place to go if you want to do some home improvements on your own or looking for some help. They have a fantastic carpet selection and garden center. The people who work at this store are so very helpful.

24 Hour Fitness

If you are looking for a gym close by then 24 hour fitness is for you. I myself have been a member of this gym for over 10 years. The staff is friendly and the classes are great! Their trainers are very qualified. This gym has something for everyone.

Rancho San Rafael Park

This park is on a former ranch with picnic & recreation facilities, as well as the Wilbur May Museum, Arboretum and Botanical gardens. Includes nature and walking trails, playground, and huge dog park. They have a restored ranch house, which can be rented out for events and meetings.
It is best known for being the home of the Great Reno Balloon Race.

Reno's award winning master planned golf community. Somersett Golf & Country Club offers an 18 hole par72 course designed by Tom Kite. The community trail system includes more then 27 natural and paved hiking & biking trails. The Club at Town Center features a media room, aerobics studio, Cardio & weights studio, Sport court, Kids corner, teen club, pools, one with a 98 foot water slide, spas, fire pit, tot lot, poolside cabana, and canyon nine par-3 golf course. The town center also has a wine bar and a Sushi Bar, which is one of my favorite places for Sushi. During the summer you can enjoy the farmers market.
