Schools Overview in Summerlin, Las Vegas, NV

Summerlin offers more than 30 public and private schools and several daycare centers. The area is part of the Clark County School District, which ranked half of Summerlin's public schools at 5-stars for the 2012-2013 school year. Learning opportunities are ensured for children with different learning abilities. Many of the area's schools have a long-standing track record of performance, achievements in sports and cultural accolades.

I handpicked the most prominent schools from PK to the 12th grade, as well as a few daycare centers for this tour.

John W Bonner Elementary School (PK-5)

Las Vegas's John W Bonner Elementary School (public) serves 721 students, grades PK-5. It has a 10/10 GreatSchools rating. The school was the top-ranked school in the Clark County Schools District in 2012.

John W Bonner Elementary School is considered among the best in Las Vegas, it offers a very strong academic program, professional teachers and very good math, science and art programs.

Extracurricular activities include: Chess Club, Student Council, Spanish Class and Break-a-leg Drama.

William R. Lummis Elementary School (PK-5)

Las Vegas's William Lummis Elementary School (public) serves 565 students, grades PK-5. It has a 8/10 GreatSchools rating.

The William R. Lummis Elementary School aims to establish an environment both safe and stimulating for its students. The school's staff is very attentive to the needs of the students and will always work with them and with their parents when needed.
The school also features several clubs, like basketball, cartwheel, etc.

Linda Rankin Givens Elementary School (PK-5)

Las Vegas's Linda Rankin Givens Elementary School (public) serves 994 students, grades PK-5. It has a 10/10 GreatSchools rating.

Givens Elementary School is relatively new and opened its doors in 2004. The school aims to ensure the academic and social success of every attending student, through the cooperative efforts of teachers, parents and, of course, students.

A notable feature of the school is the library, which holds approximately 13000 books.

Staton Elementary School (PK-5)

Las Vegas's Ethel W. Staton Elementary School (public) serves 797 students, grades PK-5. The school has a 10/10 GreatSchools rating and a Five-Star rating in the Nevada School Performance Framework. It is one of only 20 elementary schools to earn the Five-Star for the last three consecutive years.

Staton elementary provides an outstanding academic program and a wonderful environment for children, as well as full cooperation between the administration, teachers and parents.

Clarence Piggott Elementary School (PK-5)

The Ernest A. Becker Sr. Middle School features a strong academic program and plenty of extra-curriculum programs, particularly a very good music program. The school's mission is to foster a creative and challenging learning environment that empowers students to reach their full potential.

Hyde Park Middle School (6-8)

Las Vegas's Hyde Park Middle School (public) serves 1728 students, grades 6-8. The school has a 9/10 GreatSchools rating.

Hyde Park Middle School is considered one of the best middle schools in the area, it offers students an advanced learning curriculum with a particularly strong math and sciences program.

The school offers a number of clubs and extra-curriculum activities: Bowling, Chess Club, Paper and Glue, Homework Club, Anti-Bullying Club, Basketball, etc.

Sig Rogich Middle School (6-8)

Las Vegas's Sig Rogich Middle School (public) serves 1781 students, grades 6-8. The school has a 10/10 GreatSchools rating and has received the Five Star designation for 2012-2013 on the Nevada School Performance Framework.

Rogich Middle School strives to provide a positive middle school experience that fully prepares students with the academic skills, integrity, and moral responsibility that are necessary for success.

Palo Verde High School (9-12 & ungraded)

Las Vegas's Palo Verde High School (public) serves 2803 students, grades 9-12 & ungraded. The school has a 8/10 GreatSchools rating.

Palo Verde High School aims to help students develop their academic and social skills, as well as prepare for future education and social integration in a multicultural community.
The school features numerous clubs and organizations, including, yet not limited to Future Business Leaders of America, Honor Club, Student 2 Student Club, Ceramics Club, Choir Council, Science Club.

College of So. NV High School: West Charleston Campus (11-12)

Las Vegas's College of Southern Nevada High School West (public) serves 191 students, grades 11-12. The school has a 10/10 GreatSchools rating.

The High School is part of the College of Southern Nevada's Charleston Campus, the largest of the 3 main campuses. It is located in the city of Las Vegas, approximately 6 miles west of downtown.

The High School offers dedicated students the chance to take college classes while they are still in high school, and accumulate credits which later count towards their college education. The school is demanding and requires a certain level of maturity and responsibility, but it can be well worth the effort.

Shenker Academy (PK-K)

The Shenker Academy (private) serves 145 students, grades PK-K.
The school accepts children from 12 months of age to kindergarten.

The Shenker Academy is located in Summerlin and is nationally accredited by The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The staff is composed of a group of professionals that are trained in the early childhood education field. The school offers full-day and half-day preschool programs, as well as a full kindergarten program.

The Meadows School (PK-12)

Las Vegas's The Meadows School (private) serves 763 students, grades PK-12. It is coed and nonsectarian. The school claims to be the only school in the state which places 100 percent of its graduates in four-year accredited colleges and universities.

The Meadows School focuses on developing a love of learning in their students, and encourages them to seek out knowledge at school and at home. Las Vegas's La Petite Academy (private) serves students in grades PK-2. It is coed, nonsectarian and accredited by the National Early Childhood Program Accreditation (NECPA). La Petite Academy is one of the largest daycare companies in the country, it operates over 500 schools.

Lit'l Scholar Summerlin (private) serves 100 students, grades PK-K. Programs are offered for children 6 weeks through 12 years of age.

Children are schooled in: Initiative, social relations, creative representation, mathematics, science, movement, music, language, reading and writing.

Lit’l Scholar Academy’s Summerlin Campus is located in The Hills neighborhood, near the park. The campus sits on 3 acres and is comprised of 4 buildings with 5 playgrounds.

Creative Kids Learning Center (PK-K)

Creative Kids Learning Center (private) serves students in grades PK-K. Ages: 18 months - 12 years. The center offers a program for Elementary school age children for before and after school.

The center is approved for contracts with the state of Nevada Child Care Subsidy Program and is NECPA accredited. NECPA is a nationally recognized organization for the accreditation of preschools. The NECPA accreditation requires the meeting of over 250 criteria of high quality indicators in the areas of curriculum, student progress, health and safety, administration, teacher/child ratio, and parent and community involvement. These criteria are way above the standard childcare licensing regulations.
