The Grand Central District is a vibrant neighborhood in St. Petersburg, Florida. Recognized as a Main Street community by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Florida Main Street program, Grand Central is home to a thriving creative community and fun social scene as well as unique shops and dining.

Nitally's Thai-Mex Cuisine

Featured on Food Network's "Heat Seekers" for their infamous Inferno Soup, Nitally's is run by Thai-Mex couple Nit and Ally, whose food reflects not only their cultural backgrounds but their passionate love. Their menu features fusion dishes, like my favorites Panang Mole and Mexican Sushi, as well as standards, like Pad Thai.

Urban Brew and BBQ

The mission of Urban Brew and BBQ is as straightforward as their name: providing quality craft beer and American barbecue in a fun, relaxing environment. Like many other businesses in the Grand Central District, Urban Brew and BBQ is all about keeping it local. From the Augusta Blocks behind the bar and in the beer garden--that's right, beer garden--to the Florida beers on tap, Urban Brew and BBQ weaves the spirit of St. Petersburg throughout their fine establishment.

Haslam's Book Store

Haslam's Book Store is a part of St. Petersburg's rich history. Opened in 1933 during the Great Depression by John and Mary Haslam, Haslam's has always aimed to provide the public with affordable reading material. Over the years, Haslam's grew and became Florida's largest new and used book store. It now occupies 30,000 square feet in the Grand Central District with over 300,000 books in stock.

Hideaway Cafe

The Hideaway Cafe is an authentic music experience. Almost every night of the week visitors can get up close and personal with artists performing their original work. The Hideaway also offers an open mic night, Living Room Live, each Thursday. Sign up starts at 6pm, music starts at 7pm.

Grand Central Stained Glass and Graphics

Opened in 2006, Grand Central Stained Glass & Graphics is a family-owned decorative glass retail store stocking stained and fusing glass, equipment, tools and supplies as well as a studio for students looking to learn about decorative glass. Check out their website for an up to date class listing and the owner's portfolio.

Leafy Greens Cafe

Her goal? To introduce people to tasty vegan food. Denise Rispoli Becknell opened Leafy Greens Cafe to share raw vegan food with the St. Petersburg area, and her cozy cafe is quickly becoming a neighborhood staple. Leafy Green's menu is seasonal, local, gluten-free and affordable--a must-try.

The Queens Head

A trip to The Queens Head is transportive. Whether you sit at the bar or lounge outside, you will be charmed. The decor is quirky, the staff welcoming and the food delicious. Try their cauliflower croquettes (a local favorite), the award-winning fish and chips, or the humble-but-chic shepherd's pie, and check out their website for weekly and regular events.

ARTpool Gallery

You never know what you will find at ARTpool, an eclectic and exciting gallery in the Grand Central District. Between their shop, cafe and events, ARTpool keeps current and busy. Go on a treasure hunt, or go enjoy a Ron Swanson. The energy is so infectious you will leave with a little extra pep in your step.

Taco Bus

If you have been to the Tampa Bay Area, you have probably heard of the Taco Bus. Downtown St. Pete has its own Taco Bus in the heart of the Grand Central District, great for a late night bite or anytime authentic Mexican. And for those with unstoppable hunger, El Jefe, a 2 1/2 pound burrito, should silence any cravings, plus a portion of the proceeds benefit first responder charities in the Bay Area.
