Top 14 Neighborhood Amenities in Kendall, Miami, Florida

For the locals, Kendall will include the western communities of The Hammocks, Country Walk, The Crossings, Kendale Lakes, Kendall West, and Three Lakes. The average weather in Kendall is 91 degrees in the summer and 44 degrees in the winter.

Housing options in Kendall vary from condos, townhouses, single family homes to luxurious mansions and for every lifestyle. House styles are mainly Mediterranean, Spanish, Contemporary, Southern or European. There are some other house styles however this is the majority for the Kendall area.

The public transportation available is via Miami-Dade Busway (Metro Bus) and Metrorail. Both means provide service to Miami commercial centers like Coral Gables, Downtown Miami, and Miami International Airport, along with Homestead and Florida City.

There is plenty to do in Kendall for both adults and children - from parks, lakes, to shopping, zoos, movies, restaurants, and game centers. There are plenty of places to shop with Dadeland Mall and The Falls being the most popular in Kendall. There are tons of places to eat and a large assortment of ethnic food. There is Metro Zoo which is one of the world's finest zoos with a world-renowned aviary. For the outdoors, there are many parks with shelters, bike & jog paths, trails, lakes, baseball, softball, soccer, tennis and children playgrounds. Kendall Indian Hammocks Park and Hammocks Community Park are the largest parks in Kendall and they are serviced and maintained by Miami Dade Parks.

Kendall is serviced by Miami Dade Public School system and there are more than 15 public elementary schools and plenty of private schools to choose from. There are several college and universities to choose from, Miami-Dade College is a public college.

Baptist Health South Florida is the major hospital network in the Kendall area. Baptist system offers a children’s hospital, pediatric emergency room, cardiac institute and a number of urgent care centers in the region. In addition, Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) is a dedicated, freestanding children’s hospital and offers excellent medical care for children in the community. MCH was ranked 26th in Child magazine’s survey of children’s hospitals and the magazine also ranked MCH as the 10th best pediatric emergency room in the US.

Baptist Hospital of Miami

Baptist Hospital has been one of the most respected community medical centers in South Florida since 1960 since it first opened its door. It was the first hospital in South Florida to receive the nation's highest level of stroke certification. West Kendall Baptist Hospital

West Kendall Ba​ptist Hospital is part of Baptist Health South Florida. It is a new hospital and when it opened its door in 2011, it was the first brand-new hospital in Miami-Dade County in more than 35 years

The hospital encourages the West Kendall residents to achieve the goal of becoming the of “Healthiest Community in Florida” with its “Healthy West Kendall” initiative. The hospital provides inpatient care for adult medical and surgical services, including a separate critical care unit. The Emergency Department serves both adults and children. The surgical services operates on four operating rooms. There is an endoscopy suites, diagnostic and imaging facilities in the facility. The “Beautiful Beginnings” program is designed for expectant mothers and it offers all-private labor and delivery suites and dedicated C-section operating rooms within the labor and delivery unit. Next to the medical office building adjacent to the hospital, there is the Family Medicine Center.

South Miami Hospital

South Miami Hospital is part of Baptist Health South Florida hospital system with 452 beds. It is known for providing quality care in many areas such as maternity services; help for infants and children with developmental delays and disabilities, robotic surgery, addiction treatment; weight-loss surgery, and comprehensive cancer program. It also offers a wide range of outpatient and cardiovascular services.

The Falls

If you are an outdoor enthusiast, you will like shopping at The Falls. Being one of the largest open-air shopping, dining and entertainment shopping centers in the country, The Falls hosts more than 100 stores, restaurants and cafes, and a movie theater. It offers a unique shopping experience where guests can visit its beautiful, single-level walkways surrounded by a million-gallon waterscape and lush tropical foliage.

Dadeland Mall

Located in the Miami suburb of Kendall, Florida, Dadeland Mall is a large enclosed shopping center with more than 1.4 million square-feet and features more than 185 retail stores and restaurants. Anchored by Florida's largest Macy's, this shopping mecca offers fabulous fashion shopping and exquisite dining and entertainment. Guests of Dadeland can also enjoy spectacular views of Downtown Dadeland.

Kendall Indian Hammocks Park

Kendall Indian Hammocks Park is a great place to go for relaxing on weekends and evenings. It has playgrounds, running and biking trails, picnic tables, barbecue grills, and shelters for parties. The park has lots of trees which offer plenty of shades and wonderful breeze even in a hot day. For sport enthusiasts, it offers a sports center featuring 36 holes of disc golf, a baseball field, a lighted softball field and a Skate Park which consists of a 120' x 120' skate court with a variety of ramps, jumps and grinding rails for skaters of different skill levels and shaded bleachers for spectators. The park opens from 7 am until sunset.

Hammocks Community Park

Hours of Operation: Sunrise to Sunset

The park has baseball fields, Racquetball Court, Recreation Center and a Tot-Lot. In addition it is a public tennis location and has 2 tennis courts which are not lighted.

Through the Miami-Dade County they offer the following programs at this park: Spring Camp, Summer Camp, Winter Camp, Youth Sports Leagues - Baseball, After-School program

Lakes of the Meadow Branch Library

A small library located in a shopping strip mall which provides books and materials, public computers, Self‑Checkout machines, free Wi‑Fi, and a wide range of digital resources, including downloadable e‑books, audio books, music and videos. In addition this branch offers literacy events on a monthly basis.
They are opened Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Wednesday from Noon - 8 p.m.; Friday & Sunday they are closed.

Kendale Lakes Branch Library

One of the 49 branch locations that provide books, materials, public computers, Wi‑Fi and a wide range of digital resources'. This branch provides literary, cultural and educational programs each month. They have yoga classes, story time, playtime, movie showings, chess club, computer and technology classes and career source South Florida events.

Kendall Branch Library

One of the smaller and old-fashioned type of library in Miami-Dade. They have a nice selection of books and materials, public computers, free Wi‑Fi and a nice selection of audio books, music and videos. There is a nice study area and an outside playground for the children to play. In addition they have a variety of events on a monthly basis that cover areas such as health, reading, technology and careers.

Sunset Branch Library

Sunset branch is a small library located in a strip mall. Like the other Miami-Dade Library branches they have a varied selection of books, materials, public computers, Wi‑Fi and a wide range of digital resources'. The monthly events available at this branch cover areas such as reading and art. They are opened Monday, Thursday, Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Tuesday & Wednesday from Noon - 8 p.m.; Friday & Sunday they are closed.

West Kendall Regional Library

West Kendall Regional Library consists of 49 branch locations and two bookmobiles and combined they serve more than 8 million visitors each year. The library boasts a collection of 3.8 million books and materials, 1735 public computers, 120 Self‑Checkout machines, Wi‑Fi at every location, and a wide range of digital resources, including downloadable e‑books, audio books, music and videos. The library members also have access to over 150 databases - which covers areas such as health, biography, psychology, science and technology, and travel and careers. Each month the library hosts more than one thousand literary, cultural and educational programs. The library hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday - Sunday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Tuesday & Thursday from Noon - 8 p.m. The library is closed on Sunday

South Miami Metrorail Station

The Metrorail system is a rapid transit rail system that connects Miami International Airport (MIA) and the areas in Miami that includes South Miami, Coral Gables, downtown Miami, the Civic Center/Jackson Memorial Hospital area, Liberty City, Hialeah, and Medley in northwest Miami-Dade. The system currently has 136 train cars and 23 accessible Metrorail stations with about one mile apart between the stations. The Metrorail system provides easy access for bus riders, pedestrians, and passengers who are dropped off and picked up.

Nicklaus Children's Hospital

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, part of Miami Children’s Health System, was founded in 1950 by Variety Clubs International.
