Top Anoka Amenities

You will immediately notice the quaint charm of another time as you cross the Mississippi river into Anoka. Anoka’s rich history is still visible in the charm of its preserved city and neighborhoods. Settled by French traders Anoka is on the Mississippi River and lies on both sides of Rum River forming a junction with the Mississippi. The word “Anoka” means “on both sides” or “from both sides” Anoka was rich with farming as well as industry. Being on the river allowed easy access for saw mills with lumber, power and transportation for other goods and industry. Anoka considers itself to be the “Halloween Capital of the World”. In the early 1920’s it was the first city in the United States to organize a Halloween celebration, which still continues today. Anoka is one of Minnesota’s best-kept secrets, preserved and loved by all of its residents and merchants.
